NBA Dynasty 2014 Mock Draft 1.0
1. Phoenix Suns - Jabari Parker, SF Duke | MIL
You cannot really go wrong with either of the top 2 prospects in the draft, but in Milwaukee, Parker will have the opportunity to have the higher fantasy value right off the bat and become the franchise player right away for the Suns. With Dragic, Waiters, Parker, and Gasol, the new look Suns will have a very good core that can possibly compete as soon as this year in a Western Conference that is top heavy but open outside the top few teams. Parker will be the star of the franchise and is a great fit at #1.
2. Denver Nuggets - Andrew Wiggins, SG Kansas | CLE
Denver Nuggets GM Joe made a splash just prior to the draft, acquiring the number 2 overall draft pick in exchange for Spurs' star Kawhi Leonard and a pair of draft picks. The trade looks to be well worth it, as the Nuggets will have a new cost-controlled stud to build around in Wiggins. Noone knows Joe's plan besides Joe himself, but his past success and the prospect of building around a young Andrew Wiggins makes the future look bright for the Nuggets.
3. Washington Wizaeds - Dante Exum, PG Australia | UTH
Embiid could be taken here for the Wiz kids, but the prospect of having both John Wall and Dante Exum on the same team is dynamic in terms of the backcourt for the Wizards moving forward. Exum is a combo guard, meaning he could gain SG eligibility and be able to start right alongside Wall as Washington continues to build through the draft and with a large wallet heading into free agency.
4. Milwaukee Bucks - Julius Randle, PF Kentucky | LAL
Embiid continues to fall, but the Bucks have a roster that looks to be competitive right away, so they take a player in Randle who can contribute both right away as well as in the future. Randle along with Harris and Knight means that the Bucks have a group of young players to build around in addition to the likes of role players JR Smith and Jarret Jack, and older "star" David Lee. With Randle, the Bucks look very good moving forward.
5. Phoenix Suns - Aaron Gordon, PF Arizona | ORL
After drafting Parker at #1, the Suns are also able to pick up arguably the most athletic player in the draft at #5 in Gordon. FT% aside, Gordon has the chance to be a very special player and would join a core of Dragic Waiters Parker Gasol and Bennett.
6. Milwaukee Bucks - Joel Embiid, C Kansas | PHI
Embiid is arguably the most talented player in the draft and has the chance to be a superstar year in and year out. The injury concerns of both his foot and his back will scare some off, but after drafting a player that will help the organization now in Randle, the Bucks take Embiid who will contribute significantly in 2015. Twitter jokes about sliding into the DM's aside, Embiid will be an impact player despite sliding in the draft.
7. Denver Nuggets - Marcus Smart PG Oklahoma State | BOS
The Nuggets have Conley yes, but Smart is an excellent player and could be a star for Boston as he begins his push for Rondo to get out of town. Joe should be thrilled with Smart at #7 and is able to get 2 cost-controlled studs in Wiggins and Smart.
8. Miami Heat - Nik Stauskas, SG Michigan | SAC
Damian Lillard at PG and Nik Stauskas at SG. The backcourt is set for years to come in Miami and having Stauskas fall right into Pedro's lap will have him licking his lips as he announces this pick.
9. Cleveland Cavaliers - Doug McDermott, SF Creighton | CHI
The future looks very bright for the Cavs. Burke at the point, Hardaway at the 2, McBuckets at the 3, and a plethora of big men including Len, Olynyk, and Plumlee. Scoring should not be an issue moving forward with Hardaway and McBuckets leading the way as for the scoring category for Matt's Cavs.
10. Memphis Grizzlies - Elfrid Payton, PG Louisiana Lafayette | ORL
The Grizzlies are thrilled to be able to take a potential franchise PG at pick #10 in a very deep draft. The Griz have so many draft picks that it is clear that the goal is to build through the draft, and Payton is an excellent start to fill the PG void for Memphis.
11. Memphis Grizzlies - James Young, SG Kentucky | BOS
The backcourt is officially addressed as the Grizzlies take back to back guards in Payton and Young. Young has tremendous upside as a scorer, and the Grizzlies should be thrilled with how the draft is shaping so far.
12. New York Knicks- Noah Vonleh, PF Indiana | CHA
The Knicks are able to add a very solid PF in Vonleh to a front court that already features Blake Griffin. NYK should have no problem fielding 2 excellent power forwards moving forward.
13. Memphis Grizzlies - TJ Warren, SF NC State | PHX
The Grizzlies have now addressed PG, SG, and SF with 3 lottery picks. Warren could be a steal at 13 and is a dynamic scorer, averaging 25 points as a sophomore. The Grizzlies are sitting back very satisfied with their plan for the future.
14. Cleveland Cavaliers - Adreian Payne, PF Michigan State | ATL
The Cavaliers have so many young assets, but now have a very good PF to add to a front court which includes Olynyk, Adams, and Len. With Mcbuckets and Payne, the draft looks like a success for Cleveland.
15. Dallas Mavericks - Gary Harris, SG Michigan State | DEN
2 Michigan State stars go back to back, as Harris goes to Dallas to join Ty Lawson and Kawhi Leonard on the new look Mavs. Rocky is able to get a solid scorer and a very good player at 15 in Harris.
16. Orlando Magic - NONE Forfeited pick
17. Cleveland Cavaliers - Dario Saric, PF Croatia | PHI
The Cavs have so many players on their roster, and young potential stars that they can afford to stash Saric on the IL in hopes of him becoming a very good player in a few years. McBuckets, Payne, and Saric means a very good draft for CLE, which could be a talented team in a few years as the youngsters develop.
18. New York Knicks - Jusuf Nurkic, C Bosnia | DEN
After drafting Vonleh, the Knicks are able to get a very good C in Nurkic to add to that front court. A trade is sure to be made for a Sg eventually, but the Knicks should be ecstatic with the pair of big men in the draft.
19. Dallas Mavericks - Shabazz Napier, PG Connecticut | MIA
The former Connecticut star has everyone intrigued, including new Dallas GM Rocky. Cuban and Shabazz could have some good times together and although Lawson is in town, the Mavs have $32M to spend on acquiring big men in free agency. The prospect of having both Shabazz and Lawson is too much to pass up.
20. Cleveland Cavaliers - Zach Lavine, PG UCLA | MIN
The Cavaliers already have Burke, but they are deep with young talent at nearly every position. At 19, they are happy to take the best player available in Lavine.
21. Minnesota Timberwolves - Jordan Adams, SG UCLA | MEM
With Love potentially expiring after this year and only Jamal as a scorer other than Love, the T-Wolves are thrilled to add Adams to their front court. A very good summer league has everyone buzzing about the draft choice.
22. Miami Heat - Rodney Hood, SF Duke | UTH
After adding Stauskas early in the draft, the Heat are able to add Hood as a 3 next to Lillard and Stauskas, making an exciting roster for the future.
23. Chicago Bulls - Mitch McGary, PF Michigan | OKC
Everyone knows about the concerns about Derrick Rose. The Bulls have a solid roster and have about $10M of space and a MLE to add another big man via FA. McGary is a good start to add to Taj and JSmoove.
24. Orlando Magic - Tyler Ennis, PG Syracuse | PHX
The Magic are able to trap the best PG available, and with Parker as an expiring, they are able to grab a PG for the future.
25. Utah Jazz - Bruno Caboclo, SF Brazil | TOR
Bruno is the mystery man and has everyone wondering just what made him attractive at pick 20 for the Raptors in real life. Utah takes the chance and a leap of faith and selects a very intriguing prospect in Bruno.
26. Washington Wizards - Cleanthony Early, SF Wichita St. | NYK
After already adding Dante Exum, the Wizards take a very good prospect in Early to fill a void at the 3 next to Exum and Wall
27. Chicago Bulls - PJ Hairston, SG North Carolina | CHA
The Bulls have Jimmy Butler, but are able to get a very good potential scorer in Hairston. Yes he is behind Lance but has the chance to be a very good addition
28. Dallas Mavericks - C.J. Wilcox, SG Washington | LAC
The Mavericks added a solid SG in Harris, but add another one in Wilcox. You can never have too many scorers
29. Detroit Pistons - Kyle Anderson, PF UCLA | SAS
With the Spurs track record in the draft, it's hard not to expect Anderson to develop into a very good player. With Monroe being an expensive RFA, Ant can afford to draft a little insurance at the PF position.
30. Philadelphia 76ers - K.J. McDaniels, SF Clemson | PHI
The 76ers took McDaniels in real life, and take him again in the NBA Dynasty. McDaniels has the chance to carve out a role right away with the Sixers, and is a good pick at pick 30 for Philly.
