I'm starting this thread just for the fun of it. I didn't want to clutter up try trade thread with what amounts to a silly discussion.
I love the polarizing opinions about Kendall Marshall, and Gary Neal for that matter.
Trade #1: in hindsight probably worked out for both sides. Neal can be productive. Marshall gave me what I was looking for. I traded points and 3's for assists and steals. That was accomplished. Even if we don't believe in Kendall Marshall, I have a hard time understanding a veto of Gary Neal for anything. (There are still free agents who have close to the same value.) My only disappointment is that I failed to advertise Neal to the teams that valued him highest.
Trade #2: Completely different circumstances. Marshall is out for the year. My team seems miraculously playoff bound. Flexibility is more valuable to me than the stash value of Marshall. If Joe has the luxury of using his salary and IR to either hold onto him or extract better value, that's fine too. What I'm looking at is that if Larry Drew goes back to the D-League, I'll have the ability to stash and replace him rather than release yet another player on a multi-year contract. (Too bad Beno Udrih is off limits to me now.) I believe Joe gains by acquiring an undervalued asset, but also gives a competitor a little breathing room to compete with him again for free agents.
Anyway, maybe in real life Kendall Marshall isn't a good basketball player. In fantasy, he has the potential to be a specialist, so I think he fits as a piece of the puzzle somewhere. But it's still fun scrutinizing trades for role players.

Marshall > Neal
For me, Marshall will always excel when given time, if not basketball wise at least statistically.
Steve Nash's 3rd year in the league was his 1st as a starting PG. John Stockton only in his 4th.
I'm not saying that Marshall will reach those heights, but gifted players thar aren't gifted athetically take more time to adjust to the reality of the game, but they will eventually catch up to it.
And with i've seen from him, i think the potential alone crushes Gary Neal in value.
After all, Neal is just a poor man's Corey Maggette (aka Bad Porn, best nickname in NBA History).
