Grizzlies TRADE: -- LaMarcus Aldridge SAS PF (2016: $16.5M; 2017: $18.15M) -- Doug McDermott CHI SF (2016: $2.53M; 2017: $2.91M; 2018: QO)
Nuggets TRADE: -- Marcin Gortat WAS C (2016: $11.58M) -- 2018 2nd (DEN)
I accept. You know why I'm doing this.

Accept. Yes, I am taking advantage of Grizzlies' situation, even though it takes away my ability to go after a better FA. I think I cannot refuse. Thanks Max for a quick deal.

I understand the cap ramifications of this trade and that Memphis is in a tight spot to fill out the roster. However, Memphis got themselves in that place so we don't have to be as sympathetic as we would to a new owner.
LMA is more valuable than Gortat. One can argue that their contracts are different but Gortat offers more 0.2 BLK, 1.4 REB and 0.056 FG% than LMA and is worse in all other stats. That and LMA usually gets dual eligibility at PF/C. If this was the trade, I would say that Memphis is on the losing end but due to cap ramifications is obviously passable.
The problem is that Doug McDermott is worth more than a 2nd pick. How much? I don't know, but apart from lower values of cap there isn't a lower offer than this.
When you add the two, this is a trade that doesn't even allow Memphis to sign both Simmons and Hield, as the cap saved is below 8M. Sure, other trades can follow but the regular season is upon us...
Veto (0-1)
Suggestions:
Trade Gortat straight up for LMA. Unbalanced but passable in my book. Keep the trade as it is but improve on that 2nd round pick with either players or first round picks.

Renato, that was my initial proposal, but Memphis insist to add McDermott to the equation because he really need that extra cap. And for the pick, that's all I have for now, so that's really not much we can change.
One more note, he will be able to sign both of his rookies, as he has 0.73M in his cap now. So with this trade, it allows him to sign both. Just for your information.

For me it's a fair trade.
There's a productivity gap between Gortat (top60) and Aldridge (top30), but that production gap is as big as the one between LMA and Horford or last year's Gasol, so there isn't a big jump from one to another.
Unlike Renato, i believe Dougie McBuckets is a negative part being thrown the other way to balance out the trade and make up for losing LaMarcus.
As i see it, it's trading out 2 years of LaMarcus for 1 year of Gortat, a 2nd round and 2.53M in cap that allow you to sign the #1 and #5 picks in the Draft.
The only negative note for me is that the rich keep getting richer. But that has nothing to do with the trade itself...

Everything José said.
And also, at this point nobody would give more than a 2nd for McBuckets, and I'm not sure Joe wouldn't prefer the deal without him.

We all agree that it's a necessity for Max and even if i don't think that the trade is fair, it's much much better than the last one.
