Sacramento trade:
Jimmy Butler $19,97 $21,97
Norman Powell $0,99 $1,24 (QO)
Josh Hart $0,75 $0,86 (TO) $0,99 (TO) $1,24 (QO)
to San Antonio for: Russell Westbrook $21,54 $23,70 $26,07 $28,68
Sacramento accept. Westbrook takes a big chunk out of my salary cap space for 4 years but I have plenty of room to spare and will happily take on the gun fantasy player. Jimmy Butler I'm sad to see go as he is a gun but but he has a lesser role at the Wolves currently. Powell and Hart are very handy depth players and trading them leaves me very light on for depth that will need to be filled via free agency.

SAN Antonio accepts. Our depth has been badly tested in the early weeks of the year so adding Powell will help there. Brogdon takes over the PG role and we manage to keep the rest of our rookies in place so we are set for the future.

I have seen better packages for superstars but we can never disregard Butler's value and, the money and cap flexibility that San Antonio gets with this deal.

I don't think it's enough for Westbrook, especially the way Butler is playing and because he has less 2 years on his contract. Maybe Butler gets better, but right now,

Could he have gotten more? Probably. But I understand the motivation for the move. You can get stars for very reasonable amounts in free agency, so testing the waters with Butler and adding solid young depth is smart. If Butler does not work out, he will have room for a big contract star in two years. There is value beyond just the physical players being exchanged in the deal. I like it to a degree for both sides, actually. Sacramaento is the winner, but the deal isn’t awful.
